E-Scoring is Coming......Are you ready?

RNA GAME DAYS ARE GOING DIGITAL

We are thrilled to announce that Randwick Netball Association will be introducing Electronic Scoring (E-Scoring) for the 2026 Winter Season! This is an exciting step forward for our Association, bringing our competitions into line with modern digital standards and making the experience better for players, families and clubs alike.

What is E-Scoring?

E-Scoring is a digital method of recording scores, timing and match details during games using the PlayHQ Netball HQ app. Rather than using a paper scoresheet, a Team Manager scores the game electronically via the app on a smartphone or tablet. Scores are submitted in real time, meaning families and supporters can follow the game live from home or on the sidelines.

  Key Benefits

  • Live scoring — family and supporters can follow the game via the Netball HQ App, whether at home, on the sidelines or on the go.
  • Offline capability — games can still be scored with limited or no internet access; scores sync once the device reconnects.
  • Reduced administration — eliminates common issues such as illegible handwriting, score discrepancies and manual data entry after games.
  • Accurate player records — player lineups and fill-in details are recorded electronically, reducing errors.

How E-Scoring Will Work

  • The Home Team (the first team listed on the fixture) is responsible for E-Scoring each game.
  • During the first two weeks of the season, the Away team will continue to use a paper scoresheet while confidence builds with E-Scoring. Paper scoresheets will be removed entirely thereafter.
  • Access to the game is available from 1 hour prior to match start time.
  • Player Lineups should be completed before the game commences, or during breaks at minimum, before the final result is submitted — this is the Home Team’s responsibility.
  • If the Home Team has no one available to score, the Away team may E-Score.
  • Important: only one person should be entering E-Scoring at any time (i.e. the Home Team). If the Away Team attempts to add the Player Lineup, this will remove scoring access from the Home Team.
  • The two scorers must always stand together at the mid-court area near the substitution box to prevent discrepancies.
  • Accuracy over speed — always wait for the umpire to signal the goal before entering it in PlayHQ.

What Do I Need to Do?

If you are a parent, carer or scorer, here is what you need to do before the season begins:

Step 1 — Download the Netball HQ App

Download the free Netball HQ app via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and log in prior to match day.

Step 2 — Register with Your Club as a Team Manager

Each team must have 2–3 parents registered as a Team Manager in PlayHQ with management/scoring permissions enabled. There is no cost to register — it is completed through PlayHQ in the same way as player registration. Your club will share a Non-Player Registration link with you. Please contact your club secretary in the first instance.

Step 3 — Add Randwick Netball Association in the App

Once logged in, use the Add (+) button within the Netball HQ app to add Randwick Netball Association. From there, you can select the appropriate competition and grade to locate your Home and Away teams.

Key Reminders for Game Day

  • Ensure your device is fully charged before the game — a portable charger is always a good idea.
  • E-Scoring uses minimal mobile data and is suitable for most smartphones or tablets.
  • Wait for the umpire to signal the goal (arm straight up) before entering it in PlayHQ.
  • Wait for the quarter to finish completely before submitting the quarter-time score. Note: if the ball has left the shooter’s hands before the whistle, wait for the outcome of the shot and the umpire’s signal.
  • If you make a mistake, use the Undo button that briefly appears at the bottom of the screen — it is only available for a couple of seconds.
  • If PlayHQ freezes, exit the match and re-enter. Blank scoresheets will remain available at RNA Control if required.
  • If you need help on game day, visit RNA Control before your match or send someone during the match. Please know your court number.
  • Scorers must not leave the court at any time.

Practise Before Season Starts

We encourage all Team Managers to practise using the E-Scoring demo site prior to the season commencing. Visit https://score.playhq.com/demo and select Netball Australia to walk through the scoring process in a test environment.

Questions?

Please direct any questions in the first instance to your Club Secretary, who will escalate them to the RNA Secretary or the Junior/Senior Competition Coordinator as appropriate. Club contact details are available at www.randwicknetball.com.au/club-contacts.

Further guidance resources and training information will be shared with all members ahead of the 2026 Winter Season.
